About Us

Last updated

PawCostWise exists for one reason: pet owners are routinely asked to make expensive decisions with almost no idea what things should cost. A vet quotes a figure, the owner has nothing to compare it against, and the choice gets made under stress.

We research what pet care actually costs — veterinary procedures, insurance policies, and the long-term expense of caring for an aging or breed-prone pet — and publish it in plain language.

What we publish

Our guides cover four areas:

  • Vet costs and bills — what common procedures cost, what drives the variation between clinics, and how to read an itemised estimate.
  • Pet insurance — how policies work, what they exclude, and when the maths genuinely favours buying cover.
  • Senior pet care — the conditions that appear with age and what managing them costs over time.
  • Breed-specific health — inherited conditions and the lifetime costs they tend to carry.

How we research costs

Veterinary pricing is genuinely hard to pin down. It varies by region, by clinic type, by the individual animal, and by how complicated a given case turns out to be. That is why we publish ranges and explain what moves a price up or down, rather than quoting a single number that would be wrong for most readers.

Where we cite figures, we draw on published veterinary pricing surveys, insurer claims reporting, and publicly available clinic pricing. Where a figure cannot be responsibly sourced, we describe the cost drivers qualitatively instead of inventing a number. We would rather be useful and honest than precise and wrong.

What we are not

We are not a veterinary practice, and nothing on this site is veterinary advice. We do not diagnose, prescribe, or recommend treatments. Every guide points readers back to a qualified veterinarian for the actual clinical decision — because that decision depends on an animal we have never examined.

We are also not affiliated with any insurer or veterinary chain. We do not accept payment for favourable coverage.

Who writes this

PawCostWise is produced by a small editorial team. Research is compiled from published sources and reviewed by a human editor before anything is published — we do not publish unreviewed automated output. Where we use writing tools to help draft, a person checks the claims, the framing, and the safety of the guidance before it goes live.

You can read more about our process in our editorial policy, and how we fund the site in our advertising disclosure.
